Our Programs
Our programs are developed to empower and encourage greatness in young ladies who already aspire to have great potential. We know it takes a village to create a support system that ensures lasting relationships, like a sisterhood. Our fundamental role is to cheer these amazing young doers into greatness!
We focus on advocacy and awareness, corporate and endowment partners, engagement in education and in real life mentoring partnerships.
International Day of the Girl
On International Day of the Girl Child (11 October), girls all over the globe hold rallies, forums and events to raise awareness about issues and topics that affect girls on both the global and local levels. Since 2013, The Power of Girlhood has hosted an International Day of Girl conferences, rallys, and community gatherings. This event brings girls from all over the metro Detroit area into a day long event where girls gather to come up with resolutions in the areas of:

In-School Leadership Program for girls 8-18
The Power of Girlhood is a leadership development organization founded in 2011 to serve adolescent girls (8-18) in metro Detroit move through the process of girlhood. Its focus is to develop young women psychologically, socially, emotionally, and physically to become engaged and competent thriving citizens throughout their communities.
Tween Leadership Institute
A specialty workshops for tweens to discover their gifts and talents and career pathways that align with them. Tweens will also experience a panel discussion from young women about life beyond high school from colleges and universities, military, entrepreneurship, skill trades and non-traditional career paths.

Our Annual Impact
2011-2019
YEAR by YEAR GROWTH
Our Impact: From events such as International Day of the Girl, workshops and events such as our June Girl’s Meet Up, we have impacted over 800 girls and their families.
Evolution of Girlhood
2011/2012--Founded and hosted our first annual meetup 200 girls and families
2013--Hosted the First Annual International Day of the Girl 300 girls
2014--Received a proclamation from Oakland County acknowledging The International Day of the Girl
2015--Hosted The International Day of the Girl with Southfield Public Schools featuring Civil Rights Activist Keisha Thomas
2016--Hosted monthly Tea Talks with women and girls to help support career and goal setting.
2017--Hosted Global Dance Parties. Featuring traditional dances from Brazil, West Africa, Puerto Rico and the Middle East.
2018--Award from Birmingham Race Relations Task Force
2019--Expanded our program to include elementary school aged girls.
